Direct Reports: Lawn, Landscape and Hardscape teams (Approximately 5-8 crews)
FLSA: Exempt
Summary Description:
The Field Operations Manager will be responsible for leading our lawn, landscape and hardscape teams. For landscape and hardscape projects the incumbent will prepare for each day, conduct efficient and thorough morning rollouts, set up new projects properly, client communications, checking in on and motivating the teams, and ensuring a proper close out when a project is finished. For the lawn teams, the incumbent, will ensure routes are planned and followed in the most efficient manner while adhering to our high standard of professionalism. The expectation for this role will be approximately 80% in the field (direct hours) and 20% administrative (indirect hours).
Duties and Responsibilities:

Clients – On the job site, the Field Operations Manager will be a face of the company to our clients. This position will serve to set expectations, ensure adherence to standards and directly build rapport and relationships reflective of our company values. Professionalism and attention to detail are critical to ensure each client is satisfied and would refer their friends and family to work with our companies for their lawn, landscape and hardscape needs.

People Management – This role will provide direct leadership for lawn, landscape and hardscape teams to include, but not limited to expectation setting, detailed instructions, teaching new skills, coaching for improvement, discipline when necessary, documentation of performance, rewards and recognition, etc. Our Field Operations Manager will be a leader that our team members want to follow.

Production Calendar – Working in coordination with the sales function, the Field Operations Manager will maintain and update the production calendar as new projects are added to the pipeline, weather dictates, and workforce availability. The production calendar will be maintained set and updated in a monthly and weekly format.

Safety – The Field Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining a culture of safety within our workforce. While this role is responsible for holding regular safety meetings on relevant industry topics and ensuring PPE is worn while working, they will ultimately be responsible for building a team that thinks about safe movements before they are made and how safety permeates every area of our work.

Equipment inventory and maintenance – In partnership with our mechanic team, the Field Operations Manager will report any equipment that requires service immediately when necessary or by the end of each shift. When applicable, the Field Operations Manager will assist or direct the team to assist will small maintenance items for optimal function.

Administrative – After rollout and any new projects have been set up, the Field Operations Manager will complete hours verification for each team member for the previous day ensuring accuracy and allocating them to the appropriate project. Will participate in invoicing and reviewing daily team reports.

Technology – The Field Operations Manager will be a skilled user of technology such as What’s App, Google Translate, GPS, Photos, Video, etc. They will help teach our teams to understand the value technology provides and train them on proper use.

Snow Program – The Field Operations Manager will be responsible for the winter season activities. This includes working with the hiring team to recruit and train drivers, watch the weather and plan for storms, execute on the plan when weather arrives and ensure all equipment is clean and serviced at the end of each storm.

Sales – Though sales is not the focus of this role, there is a potential to earn bonus on enhancement work.

Fries collared shirt with khakis on a daily basis with spare work clothes in the company issued truck.

Process Improvement – As a company, we believe that there is often a better, more efficient way of doing things and we are eager to have our team members help us find those new methods. This position should act as a leader in recognizing and escalating those ideas for process improvement.

Operation – Ability to proficiently operate a truck and trailer (forward and reverse) as well as the ability to teach others to do the same. Experience operating heavy equipment such as, but not limited to skid steer, excavator, mulch blower, mulch mule, mini skid steer, stump grinder, chipper, commercial mowing equipment, truck, trailer, snowplow, wheel loader, backhoes, dumpster trucks, forklifts, etc.)

Ability to lift 40-80 pounds regularly in a safe manner.

Possess a valid driver’s license

Willingness to work in adverse weather, at irregular hours and in fast-changing conditions

Continuous Learning – The incumbent will have a desire to continue growing their skills and knowledge
What may be difficult about this position:
-
Hours of Work: Very busy between March-July. Not that every day will be dawn to dusk, but in our industry the March to July timeframe is our busy season and we work long days sometimes. There will be flexibility in this role, but it will be a two-way street.

Spanish and English speaking workforce – The ideal candidate will be willing to speak some Spanish as many of our crew members do not speak English as their first language.

Working Conditions
The physical environment requires the Field Operations Manager to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions. May be frequently exposed to heights and uneven surfaces. Incumbents in this role are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate.

Salary: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
